Abstract
1) Fifty-one cases of pancreatic diseases which were operated at Seoul Red Cross Hospital between
the period of Dec. 1962 and Aug. 1969 reviewed.
2) Analysis of 51 cases pancreatic disease were 21 cases of pancreatitis(18 cases of acute hermorrhagic
pancreatitis and 3 cases of chrinic relapsing pancreatitis), 17 cases of pancreatic cancer, 6 cases of
pancreatic pseudocyst, 3 cases of pancreatic abscess, 3 cases of pancreatic trauma and 1 case of
traumatic pancreatitis.
3) Total incidence of these pancreatic diseases of 51 cases among the total number of 3,803 cases
which had laparotomies during this period was 1.86%.
4) The average age of 27 men and 24 women was 43 yrs.
5) Overall post-operative mortality was 13.7%. (7 cases among 51 cases) i.e 4 cases (22.2%)
among 18 cases of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, 2 cases(11.8%) among 17 cases of pancreatic
cancer, 1 case(33.3%) among 3 cases of pancreatic trauma respectively. The patients of pancreatic
pseudocyst, pancreatic abscess, chronic relapsing pancreatitis and traumatic pancreatitis had uneventful
postoperative courses.
6) The postoperatice complications in acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis were 1 case of multiple
pancreatic abscess which was drained again on the postoperative 45th day and 2 cases of pseudocyst
which were marsupialized each on the postop. 22nd and 28th day.
